Drugs & Alcohol fill two spots,
A cell in prison and a cemetery lot!
I’M FREE
By Kevin Cody,
Even though I’m incarcerated, I know that the Lord will set me free,
Not because of the good deeds that I do, but because of my sincerity.
No one is perfect. We all make mistakes.
And the challenge is to repent from the mistakes that we make.
Submit yourselves to the will of God, and let Him lead the way.
As long as you trust in Him, whole-heartedly and sincerely, He will
Bless you unconditionally, day by day.
By the grace of God, I am drug, alcohol, and disease free,
I once was blind, But now I can see.
John 15 clearly states that we can’t accomplish anything without
Jesus Christ as our guide.
Now there’s no limit to my capabilities, because, I’ve got God on my side
. I’m Free….
Just an update on inmate news.
The PALMS group is growing meeting by meeting. Due to a date mix up we were able to have it two weeks in a row instead of monthly. They now number in the 40's and it is awesome to feel God's presence in their praise and worship music, prayers and ministry. This is strictly an inmate lead group teaching other inmates how to minister to fellow inmates. We have the honor to witness in their growth and help to bring in outside groups to minister at special events.
Native American Bible Study
Wow, where do I start! We have been blessed to work with Promise Keepers at the prison when they invited a Native American Pastor and musician in for a special event. They had 84 inmates in attendance. During this time we invited them to join in with our Bible Study. We had 5 join since then and now total 18 at Native American Bible Study. Watching what God has done in this group is miraculous, seeing hearts change from hate, to tolerance, to praying for their enemies!
One of the problems we run into with our Bible Study is it is during the afternoon during work hours or other classes. They can take two hours a week off for classes so if they have no mandatory classes they can attend ours.
Pray for an inmate.
Some are very young without family support, and others are the elderly with special health needs, others die in prison without any family at their memorial services.
Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison and came unto thee?
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you. Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
Matthew 25:39-40
Welcome to our Prison Ministries
A little history as to how we began. In the Spring of 2005 Dennis started with his Bible Study in a M2 program at Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield S D. It is a man to man mentoring program in which an inmate is picked for you and your interest and then you can visit them on visiting days. Dennis and his inmate had many common interests and it wasn't long before I was asked to join them. Twice a month we were able to visit with this inmate and watching him grow in his walk with Jesus caused us to grow as we realized how much Jesus loves all of us and reaches down to all who would receive Him.
In the Summer of 2007, the very month our inmate was to be released, we realized we wanted to do more to reach more than just one at a time. So....we enrolled in a 3 week class at the prison that allows you to be a full time volunteer in the prison. With no idea what God would have us do when we finished, we went to "school" by faith! We finished in July and in September we were asked to sponsor an inmate group that meets once a month called PALMS. (Prisoner Associated Lay Ministry @ Springfield)
As they are learning to minister to their fellow inmates, we help by bringing in outsiders to speak and minister during the meetings or for special events. In April we sponsored a Spring Celebration were 115 inmates were able to attend and hear the word of God and enjoy worship music and time.
In November we were asked if we would sponsor a Native American Bible Study. We have been meeting weekly and have had the opportunity to worship, pray and study God's Word.
This ministry continues to Bless us daily as we watch what God does in the lives of these men.
We are all prisoners of something and only JESUS can set us free.
